Inc.com laid off its usability people. And its web developers

I was searching for some piece of information (detailed comparison matrix on ecommerce platforms) that Inc.com promised to give me.

Use this E-Commerce Product-Comparison Matrix to determine the features and functionality you need to launch an E-commerce Web site and find the vendors that can fill your needs.

Promised but only “IF” I create an account first

I’m so used with type of “payment” to get to my information that I type it blindfolded, half asleep with my toes. User accounts I have everywhere. I know what they want for me. So I went ahead and filled out more information than necessary. At the end, I clicked “Create account”

This is what I got:

The following questions came to my mind while I was waiting consciously for my “click on the link inside your email so that we know you are not a real person”:

  • Where’s my article?
  • Why there’s a piece of code in their site below the tab? (I would paste the code here but the last time I did - I’m writing this post for the second time - Inc.com made my ScribeFire crash. Not exactly the website itself but the piece of code I tried to copy paste)

Anyone who came anywhere near a usability book knows that you don’t make your users wonder so much. Maybe you let them muddle along if it’s a new feature that’s impossible to place but USER CREATION??

In the end I saw a very very small link that said “Continue”. I clicked. I downloaded my article. Here it is :

I didn’t get what I wanted, but at least I got a subject for my blog

I was looking for some info about Inc.com and, surprisingly, I found both your site your post.

I used to read every Inc.com’s issue; there’s no January issue (I guess) for some reason. Maybe due to what you say about laid off people? (Current Issue is December’s…)

    Greetings from Spain!
By the way, Damn user registration sites! :)
