Telling interactive stories - The New York Times
Last night I listened Andrew DeVigal depicting his stories around the multimedia work he does for The New York Times. It was my first event as a member of New York Chapter of the Usability Professionals Association and it was an inspiring one.
Andrew showcased some amazing articles that I want to share:
- Exonerated, Freed, and What Happened Then -Moving stories of more than 130 prisoners that have been exonerated by DNA evidence in the United States
- Deadly Rampage at Virgina Tech The events at Virgina Polytechnic Institute are visually represented in 3D
- Casualties of War - Faces of the Dead - The analysis tab show an amazing number, much higher than the 9/11 one
- And my favorite one 2008 Election - Choosing a President
These stories (and you can see more on DeVigal Delicious Bookmarks ) are incredibly well produced, but my questions is: who saw this work?
I’m a New York Times Reader and I first came across these stories last night.
I’m exactly their target:
- I’m tech savvy,
- I love visual over text as I’m used to fast scanning web pages
- I read all these articles in text over my phone or RSS readers
and yet, I didn’t see these interactive stories (they are not SEO friendly either, as the text is flash undercover)
